2 Chronicles 1:1-13. The books of the Bible titled 1 and 2 Chronicles are effectively history books that detail the lives of the leaders of Israel for several generations. This passage outlines how Solomon started his reign as king. One of our prayers is that all of us in leadership follow his lead in how we order our approach to leading. Solomon commenced his kingship by:

  1. Bringing the country together to worship and pray;
  2. Sacrificing generously;
  3. Aligning his goals with God’s wishes;
  4. Going to work.

The training that I received in school and in the marketplace had a different order:

  1. Identify the problem you are solving (goal setting);
  2. Make a plan to solve the problem/achieve your goal;
  3. Execute the plan;
  4. Work with Excellence.

I regularly asked God to bless the plans that I made. Goal setting, working with excellence and aggressively executing plans are what good organizations do. Solomon’s example of looking to Heaven first and aligning with God’s purposes before getting busy with work is the mark of a great organization.

We prayed:

  • For worship to infiltrate every part of your work;
  • For you to look to God for direction as you move in the marketplace;
  • For you to search out ways to be exceedingly generous;
  • For aligned goals that bless others and glorify God.

Praying in the right order,
