Our stomachs direct us with hunger and our passions drive us with other desires. Sometimes our short-term needs seem so important that we trade in long-term objectives without fully considering the consequences. There is a story in Genesis about Esau trading his rights as the firstborn son to his younger brother Jacob for a bowl of lentil stew. We prayed for you to make better decisions than Esau.

In Genesis 25:29-34 [ ]On oath Esau traded away his rights as the firstborn. Jacob gave him bread and the stew of lentils.” [ ]

We live in an instant world. When was the last time you had to go to the video store to get a movie? Stepped outside to harvest some veggies from the garden? Waited to ask a question rather than Googling it? I can’t count how many times each day I impulsively make a decision because I’m convinced that it is a good decision and don’t even consider what God might have to say about it. When I have big decisions, I’m normally so engaged emotionally and logically, it feels like a waste of time to ask God what He thinks. Or … maybe I’m afraid of what I might hear? Do I trust Dayn more than God?

We prayed:

  • That your decision making IS NOT rash, impetuous, made while you are HALTed (Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired), self-focused, lazy, fearbased.
  • That your decision making IS considerate, seeking heaven’s perspective, based on being a child of God, made in complete peace, trusting that God knows better than you do.

Patience and peace are often missing from the workplace. We prayed that you become the patient, peacemaking, kingdom-seeking leader in your business and with the businesses that you serve. Even 3,000 years later, lentils are not worth an inheritance.

Praying while hungry,

Dayn and the prayer teamP.S. One of our team members had a pot of lentils on the stove as we prayed for you! Coincidence???

We only pray for for-profit businesses. Are you interested in having us pray for what you do?
